The system also allows the selectors (for the prize) to view the submissions in an anonymous way, to remove bias, and for the administrators to view the complete submissions, with personal data, for administrative purposes. A Debian based Amazon EC2 instance was created to host the system, and this instance is scaled up during the prize period to handle the thousands of applications. The system also uses the Paypal IPN api to accept payments from the applicants.

Many modifications have been made to the site to better showcase their products, most notably being the implementation of Retina quality images througout the site.

Re-implemented the, extensive, existing a-n.co.uk site, which was written in the legacy language of net.data and used a DB2 back-end. The DB2 back-end was kept in place because of the large amount of existing data and a new front-end and CMS system was constructed using the CakePHP framework. This involved large modifications to the CakePHP DB2 driver as it did not function correctly. As well as the re-implementation new mini-sites were added to the a-n.co.uk website, under the sites.a-n.co.uk domain. Because of instability in the existing DB2 setup we determined a move from the Windows based installation to a Linux based one would be the answer. We executed this import/export/installation operation with success and stability of the entire website and back-end tools has been greatly improved.
